What Are My Pregnancy Options in 2022?

Unplanned pregnancies often come with feelings of anxiety and uncertainness. This can cause you to make rash decisions that you might end up regretting later. The most important thing to remember is that you’re not alone and you have many options. Our goal at Her Choice is to make sure you’re informed and prepared throughout your entire pregnancy. This article will guide you through the following:

Confirming Your Pregnancy

There are many symptoms of pregnancy, but your first step should always be confirming you’re pregnant so you can better understand your options. Here at Her Choice, you can take an accurate pregnancy test that we provide at no cost to you. If your results come back positive and you are considering options then we’d recommend that your next step be to get an ultrasound.

The Importance of an Ultrasound

An ultrasound provides you with important information such as how far along you are, your estimated due date, and that it is a viable pregnancy. When you’re wondering what to do next, ultrasounds can help dictate what options are available based on how pregnant you are. Her Choice offers free ultrasounds to anyone experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and schedules a free appointment through our website’s online appointment form.

Option 1: Become a Parent

Choosing to become a parent can be both overwhelming and rewarding. Many women worry about the challenges that come with being a parent but it’s important to know you don’t have to go through it alone. There are plenty of support groups and clinic centers, like Her Choice, who are dedicated to helping you with options such as pregnancy counseling and free services.

Option 2: Adoption + Types of Adoption

Adoption doesn’t have to be a dark and scary experience. There are a lot of women who struggle with fertility and with enough guidance and the right choice, you and the adoptive family can create the perfect home for your baby. Because there are several different adoption options, it is important for you to take your time and get your questions answered. Here are two options if you are considering giving your baby up for adoption:

Open Adoption

In an open adoption, you and the adoptive parents can choose to have an open relationship with one another. You can share names and information, and if desired, even meet.

Closed Adoption

In a closed adoption, you and the adoptive parents do not meet or know each other’s names. The adoptive parents receive information about your medical history and family history, but nothing that would identify you.

Option 3: Abortion

We know this is a stressful and uncertain time for you, which is why we are here to help as you consider your decisions. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to friends or family, speak to one of our counselors here at Her Choice Birmingham. There is no cost, and any conversation you have with us is confidential.

Your Next Steps

It’s important to understand all of your options which is why we’ve created this resource for you. Your health comes first and it’s important that you know all of the facts. Whether it’s about becoming a parent, adopting, or abortion, you should feel informed and empowered while making your decision.
